Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. Every feature — logo, colors, SVG export, all content types — is free, with no account and no watermark. You may use the codes commercially. The site is financed by ads.
Do the QR codes expire?
No. QRGen creates static QR codes: the content is encoded directly in the image. They work forever, independently of this website.
Is my data uploaded to a server?
No. The code, its content and your logo are processed entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is transmitted or stored on our servers — we couldn't read your data even if we wanted to.
Which format should I choose — PNG, SVG or JPG?
Use SVG for print, signage and logos: it's a vector format and scales without quality loss. Use PNG for websites, documents and transparency. JPG is the smallest file but has no transparency.
How do I add a logo without breaking the code?
Keep the logo below about 30% of the code area and use readability level H (QRGen raises it automatically when you add a logo). Then test the code with several phones.
What does the readability level (error correction) mean?
QR codes contain redundant data so they stay readable when partly covered or damaged. Level L tolerates about 7% damage, M 15%, Q 25% and H 30%. Higher levels make the code denser.
Can I create a Swiss QR-bill with this?
The QR-bill (payment part on Swiss invoices) is a strictly regulated banking format with its own validation rules. QRGen focuses on general-purpose QR codes — our guide explains the QR-bill and where to create compliant ones.
Why is a quiet zone (border) important?
Scanners locate a QR code by the empty margin around it. Without a quiet zone, codes on busy backgrounds often fail. Keep the default border, especially for print.
